Connecting Humans to Nature

At Morning Star Colours, we believe in learning how to dye and craft whilst walking lightly on the earth. We are living and working on Dja Dja Wurrung country, and feel deep appreciation and respect for their stewardship of the land, and their elders past, present and future.

Our botanical dyes and craft materials are sustainably sourced and 100% natural.

Yes, the dyes are from natural sources such as leaves, bark, fruit rinds, insects and roots. Several of the dyes are made from food processing waste products, such as pomegranate skins and Ayurvedic medicine. All the dyes and auxiliaries were evaluated for organic textile processing and have a certificate from Control Union that they comply with the Global Organic Textile Standard (GOTS).

As a distributor for Botanical Colors LLC in Australia,  I am so pleased to find such an ethical source for our dyes, and wonderful mentoring support to encourage natural dyeing in Australia.

We welcome new retailers for the dyes and do feel free to get in touch on 0458 280 547.

Meet Elizabeth Newbirch

Morning Star Colours is both a reflection on my own passion for natural dyeing and handcrafting of all kinds, and a wish to share that with others. In my studio in Central Victoria I am slowly adding to a range of plant dyes wool and felt for knitting and craft work.

I love to teach dollmaking and other crafts based on my background in Steiner early childhood work. COVID permitting, I hope to resume teaching welcome visitors again in my lovely semi rural setting this year.

I also support home schoolers too with craft programs for them to teach to their children.
