Base Unit 50g
Fustic (Chlorophora tinctoria or Maclura tinctoria) is a tall tropical hardwood that grows from Mexico to Argentina. Fustic is high in tannic acid, which makes it an ideal cotton dye.
Liquid Fustic (Maclura tinctoria, also Chlorophora tinctoria) is a preparation of fustic extract. It’s actually the precursor to fustic powder before it is further purified and dried. As a result, the liquid version of fustic is slightly browner and more golden and is rich in tannin. It’s very easy to use and creates a beautiful base for green with indigo, or olive and sage greens with iron. The yellow dye in fustic is maclurin, the same dye molecule that is found in Osage orange.
Use it at 1-10% on the weight of fibre (WOF). Use at 10% for a bright rich gold with a strong exhaust dyebath for additional colour. Lower percentages will produce a lemony shade.
The shade may shift browner in bright direct sunlight.
